FURUYU KUMANOKAWA
Kumanokawa Onsen is a place steeped in the atmosphere of a spa resort, with scenic views of a quiet gorge and lodging that looks out over the Kasegawa River. In 1924, the Chinese literary figure Guo Moruo stayed here for 10 months, depicting his surroundings in his novel Kouronan.
Furuyu Onsen lies upstream on the Kasegawa River, at an altitude of about 200m. It has a long history. The Eiryu hot spring (now the Furuyu Onsen-kan Inn, and a spot for mixed bathing) was discovered during the reign of Emperor Korei, and the Kakurei hot spring was discovered during the reign of Empress Koken when two old men had a dream of clouds. In June 1967, boring for a new hot spring successfully brought hot water to the inns.
The water, rich in ions, is smooth to the skin without irritation.
